What Is Dairy-Free Skyr?

Dairy-Free Skyr is Icelandic Provisions' Oatmilk Skyr: a vegan version of traditional skyr made with oats instead of milk, using Certified Heirloom Icelandic cultures to produce the skyr you know and love. Oatmilk skyr has a thick and creamy texture and high protein content without any animal-derived ingredients.

DELICIOUSLY DAIRY-FREE

Icelandic Provisions Oatmilk Skyr is a vegan Icelandic yogurt that mirrors the traditional skyr-making process using the same Certified Heirloom Icelandic Cultures, but consciously omits the dairy. We believe that no one should have to sacrifice taste, texture, or nutrition to enjoy a non-dairy yogurt. Unlike many plant-based foods that lean on gums, starches, and fillers, we've devoted years to perfecting a recipe that features only natural, easy-to-pronounce ingredients that you know and trust.

Oatmilk Skyr is made for anyone avoiding dairy: whether you're vegan, lactose-intolerant, managing a dairy sensitivity, or just want to try a plant-based option without giving up the protein and texture that gives you the most authentic taste of skyr.

Crafted with Wholesome Oats

STRENGTH IN EVERY SPOONFUL

Each cup of Icelandic Provisions Oatmilk Skyr boasts 12-16 grams of protein, crafted to satisfy and sustain you. While many non-dairy yogurts contain high levels of saturated fat, our Oatmilk Skyr combines nutrient-dense, whole grain oats with pea protein to fortify the body, keeping you energized and ready for whatever challenges that might come your way.

That protein comes from two sources working together: whole grain oat flour and pea protein. Combining the two yields more protein than oat flour alone, which is how a plant-based skyr gets close to the protein levels of our dairy skyr.

Certified Icelandic Heirloom Cultures

FULL OF HEIRLOOM CULTURES

Our Certified Heirloom Icelandic Cultures have been adapted to thrive in a dairy-free setting, allowing our Oatmilk Skyr to maintain the mild, creamy flavor and thick & creamy texture that our skyr is known for. It is crafted in a way that honors the traditions of Icelandic skyr-making that go back over 1,000 years.

What's Inside

Oatmilk Skyr starts with oats and pea protein instead of milk, plus coconut oil for creaminess and the same Heirloom Culture process used in our dairy skyr. Every ingredient in our plain Oatmilk Skyr is one you'd recognize:

  • Oats and pea protein, both non-GMO, for the base and the protein content
  • Coconut oil, processed to remove the allergenic protein, added for healthy fat and texture
  • Cane sugar, used in small amounts because the cultures need it to ferment, and to round out the flavor

No artificial colors, no artificial sweeteners, and none of the gums or starches that a lot of other plant-based yogurts lean on for texture.

Oatmilk Skyr is free from the US major allergens. It's produced in a facility that also processes soy, almond, and cashew, so it may contain trace amounts of tree nuts and soy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Icelandic Provisions Oatmilk Skyr vegan?

Yes. Oatmilk Skyr contains no ingredients derived from animals, including the cultures used to ferment it.

What is dairy-free skyr made from?

Our Oatmilk Skyr base is made from oats, pea protein, and coconut oil, fermented with the same heirloom culture process used in our dairy skyr.

Does dairy-free skyr have less protein than regular skyr?

Not by much. Oatmilk Skyr has 12-16 grams of protein per serving, close to the 11-20 grams in our dairy skyr, because the oat flour and pea protein work together to boost the total.

Is Oatmilk Skyr gluten-free?

Our Oatmilk Skyr is not certified gluten free. Oats naturally do not contain gluten, however, depending on how they are processed, there can be cross-contamination with gluten.

Where are the ingredients sourced from?

Oats come from the US, Canada, Estonia, or Sweden. Our oat supplier financially supports regenerative agriculture events and farmer education, and runs an annual survey to track farming practices and biodiversity. Our pea supplier focuses on soil health, with 96% of growers using practices like cover crops and reduced tillage. Our coconut supplier holds an EcoVadis Gold Certification and is working to cut water usage by 30% in water-stressed regions by 2030.
